Who We Are
The Informed Young Leaders series was created in early 2015 by Nick Lapham of St. George, Maine, as a community service project for a leadership program he was taking. (The Self Expression and Leadership Program, Landmark Worldwide: http://www.landmarkworldwide.com).
Nick enrolled a group of local teachers from Midcoast Maine high schools in his vision for an ongoing series of student presentations to the public, and the teachers in turn enrolled several of their students to create presentations using the PechaKucha-style format, consisting of 20 images, 20 seconds per image.
Nick also enrolled a group of community leaders from different professional backgrounds and across the political spectrum, to serve as community mentor advisors, working with students preparing their presentations.
The first Informed Young Leaders event took place on Friday, May 22, 2015 at the Sail, Power & Steam Museum in Rockland, Maine. This inaugural event has been followed by twice yearly (Fall/Spring) events from 2016-2018, with the most recent event — China’s Global Ascendancy — held My 22, 2019 at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro, Maine.
